Message from Captain Aldo Hernandez Santee - Aldo Hernandez

The City of Santee was incorporated in 1980. Its rich history and sense of community makes it the ideal place to visit or call home. Santee is the 12th largest city in San Diego County with more than 58,000 residents. Santee is more than 16 square miles and known for its many parks, trails, and outdoor activities.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department has provided law enforcement services since the city's inception. The Santee Sheriff's Station has more than 60 employees providing patrol and traffic services, criminal investigations, juvenile intervention, crime analysis and crime prevention education. A Sheriff's storefront is operated in the Santee Town Center near the San Diego Trolley line and San Diego Christian College. The station boasts a robust volunteer unit that provides invaluable community services including vacation checks and regular visits to homebound citizens.

Our staff utilizes comprehensive crime analysis, crime prevention and community oriented policing strategies in our constant effort to reduce crime. We rely heavily on community engagement and hold community meetings throughout the year so citizens can voice concerns and ask questions of command staff. Our mission is to foster a lasting community partnership with the common goal of keeping Santee a model for safe and family friendly living.

Patrol

Patrol deputies are first responders. They respond to crimes or emergencies in progress and conduct routine patrols with their primary focus on the protection and preservation of life. They conduct preliminary investigations and apprehend law violators. Patrol deputies also participate in the community, while on duty, attending Neighborhood Watch meetings and making presentations to youth groups, service groups and schools.

Traffic

The traffic division handles vehicle code enforcement, traffic collision investigations and traffic control within the city of Santee. The California Highway Patrol is the agency responsible for traffic enforcement in the unincorporated areas throughout the State of California.

Detectives

Detectives investigate cases involving theft, physical assaults (excluding homicides), sexual assaults, vandalism, burglaries, annoying phone calls and other crimes. Specialized investigative units such as homicide, bomb/arson, financial crimes, domestic violence, child abuse and narcotics handle specific crimes for the entire Sheriff’s jurisdiction, including the Santee Station.

COPPS / School Resource Officers

Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) deputies are special purpose deputies assigned to investigate the quality of life issues within the community. COPPS deputies utilize the COPPS philosophy to promote quality interaction between law enforcement and neighborhood citizens. COPPS deputies also conduct directed patrols focusing on gangs, persons on parole/probation, persons with outstanding warrants, graffiti, human trafficking, prostitution, habitual offenders, transient camps and alcohol/tobacco related crimes. COPPS deputies are also active within the community by attending Neighborhood Watch meetings and providing various presentations to youth groups, community groups, schools and businesses.

There are two School Resources Officers assigned to the schools in Santee. They handle all crimes relating to school students. These crimes include truancy, tobacco, drug and alcohol related offenses as well as crimes that occur on school grounds.
