The License & Criminal Registration Division serves as the registration center for those required by law to meet certain criminal registration requirements.

  • PC 290 - Sex Offender Registration
  • PC 457.1 - Arsonist Registration – Lifetime Registration
  • PC 186.30 – Gang Member Registration - Terminates 5 years after last imposition of registration

Registration Hours (effective 3-17-22):

WALK-IN:  Tuesdays and Wednesdays only

BY APPOINTMENT:  Thursday morning only

12:00pm-1:00pm - The lobby is closed and the phones are answered by an automatic recording only.

You MUST be signed in by 11:00am for morning assistance or 3:00pm for afternoon assistance.

Only 10 patrons are allowed in the lobby at one time.  If we are at capacity, you may be asked to wait outside once you sign in. 

On "walk-in" days (Tuesday and Wednesday), customers are seen on a first come, first served basis.  There is a possibility that you may not be assisted if more people show up than we can safely help while abiding by COVID-19 guidelines.

Notification of International Travel of Sex Offender

Please complete the International Megan's Law form for any international travel.  The form is fillable and should be completed, then printed, signed in ink and emailed as an attachment to crm.licensing@sdsheriff.org 

This form must be submitted to our department 21 days prior to departure.

 

 

Sex Offender | 290 Tiering Information

 

Beginning on January 1, 2021, registrants may request their local registering agencies to provide them with their tier notification letters. This request must be done in writing.

Fillable Request for Tier Notification Letter

Photo ID is required (Driver's License, Passport, Military ID or other Government-issued ID).

The photo ID must be provided in person, therefore:

  1. If the written request is dropped off in person, the photo ID will be sighted at that time - OR - 
  2. If the written request is received via email, fax or regular mail, the registrant must pick up the letter in person and show their photo ID to the Deputy at that time

 

You may request the tier notification letter via the following options:

  • Email:   Criminal Registration letter request
  • Fax:       (858) 974-2093
  • Drop off written request in-person (Reminder: Registrant must show photo ID at this time)
  • Mail-in written request (see mailing address at the top of this page)
    • Registrant's letter will be processed and can be picked up in the front lobby from the Deputies. Registrant must show photo ID to pick it up.
  • Request in-person at Annual Update
