Message from Lt. Jeff Ford IMG_9897 1x1 Crop

Primarily desert, Borrego Springs is an unincorporated area of northeast San Diego County. Borrego Springs has a long and colorful history surrounded and protected by the 600,000 acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The Anza-Borrego State Park attracts thousands of visitors each year for hiking, photography and sightseeing. From October to May, between 50,000 to 150,000 off-road visitors and campers visit Borrego Springs. Also located in this desert community is the Ocotillo Wells State Recreation Vehicular Area. This area provides a popular off-highway vehicle park for dune-buggy, ATV, motorcycle and four-wheel drive enthusiasts. Here in San Diego County’s only desert community, the nearest stoplight is fifty miles away. Borrego Springs enjoys a slower, uncomplicated pace, rustic scenic beauty and the authentic desert experience.

This area is patrolled by the Sheriff’s Department. Services include law enforcement, off-road enforcement, crime prevention, community advisory group (CAG), school resource officer, Senior Volunteer Patrol and more.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department initiated the Citizen Advisory Group (CAG) based upon the recognition that members of the community are an integral part of any law enforcement strategy. The department knows the community has insights and perspectives that can assist Sheriff’s deputies’ control and prevent crimes in the communities they serve. Thus, the CAG provides a forum to encourage open communication between law enforcement and the community. The Borrego Springs CAG hopes to foster a greater sense of ownership on behalf of the citizens in addition to a greater sense of collaboration with law enforcement officials in the East County.
