An investigation is underway into a collision involving a Sheriff's Department vehicle in Santee. It happened on Monday, January 8 shortly after 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Mission Gorge Road and North Magnolia Avenue. 

A deputy was driving back to Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility from Alvarado Hospital Medical Center in the College area with an incarcerated individual.

At some point during the commute, the individual in the backseat became aggressive and worked her way out of her seat belt restraint. She began kicking the rear passenger window in an attempt to escape custody. The deputy expedited their return to Las Colinas by activating his vehicle's emergency equipment. The deputy collided with a black Honda while turning onto Mission Gorge Road. 

Deputies from the Santee Sheriff's Station responded to the scene to assist with the incident. The deputy involved in the collision was not hurt. The incarcerated person was taken to a hospital for a complaint of pain and released a short time later with no injuries. The driver of the Honda was not injured. The passenger of the Honda sustained an abrasion on the leg. 

Juliette Espinoza ( DOB: 09/03/2002) was initially booked into Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility on January 6, 2024 on drug related charges. She was booked on a new charge of attempting to escape (4532(B)(1) PC in connection with today's incident. 

The Sheriff's Department will continue to investigate the collision and will provide updated information as it becomes available. The Sheriff's Department takes every collision investigation seriously and will fully review the circumstances surrounding this incident.

Investigación de colisiones – Santee

Lesiones leves en la colisión de vehículos del alguacil.

Se está llevando a cabo una investigación sobre una colisión que involucró a un vehículo del Departamento del Alguacil del Condado de San Diego en Santee. Ocurrió el lunes 8 de enero poco después de las 11:30 a.m. en la intersección de Mission Gorge Road y North Magnolia Avenue.

Un oficial conducía de regreso al Centro de Detención y Reingreso de Las Colinas desde el Centro Médico del Hospital Alvarado en el área de College con un individuo encarcelado.

En algún momento durante el viaje, la persona en el asiento trasero se volvió agresiva y logró salir de su cinturón de seguridad. Comenzó a patear la ventana trasera del pasajero en un intento de escapar de la custodia. El diputado aceleró su regreso a Las Colinas activando el equipo de emergencia de su vehículo. El oficial chocó con un Honda negro mientras giraba hacia Mission Gorge Road.

Oficialies de la estación del alguacil de Santee respondieron a la escena para ayudar con el incidente. El oficiale involucrado en la colisión no resultó herido. La persona encarcelada fue trasladada a un hospital por una queja de dolor y dada de alta poco tiempo después sin lesiones. El conductor del Honda no resultó herido. El pasajero del Honda sufrió una abrasión en la pierna.

Juliette Espinoza (Fecha de nacimiento: 09/03/2002) fue ingresada inicialmente en el Centro de Detención y Reingreso de Las Colinas el 6 de enero de 2024 por cargos relacionados con drogas. Fue fichada por un nuevo cargo de intento de fuga (4532 (B) (1) PC en relación con el incidente de hoy.

El Departamento del Sheriff continuará investigando la colisión y proporcionará información actualizada a medida que esté disponible. El Departamento del Sheriff se toma muy en serio todas las investigaciones de colisiones y revisará completamente las circunstancias que rodean este incidente.
