On Friday, February 23, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a shooting in the 7500 block of Mendoza Road on the Rincon Indian Reservation. Responding deputies located a 46-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, who was transported to the hospital by air ambulance. A 31-year-old male was detained and a rifle was recovered at the scene.
The 31-year-old Valley Center resident, identified as Kyle Del Gregory, was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility. Gregory is being held without bail and will face multiple felony charges to include attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
On Monday, February 26, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the shooting victim, identified as Jason Gillespie, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Sheriff's Homicide Detectives have updated the charges against Kyle Del Gregory to include 187(a) PC – Murder.
At this stage of the investigation, the motivation and circumstances of the crime are still under investigation.
The Medical Examiner's Office has determined Gillespie died from gunshot wounds. The manner of his death was ruled as a homicide.

El Viernes 23 de Febrero de 2024, aproximadamente a la 1:00 p.m., los oficiales del Alguacil fueron enviados a un tiroteo en la cuadra 7500 de Mendoza Road en la Reserva Indígena Rincón. Los oficiales que respondieron localizaron a un hombre de 46 años que sufría múltiples heridas de bala y fue transportado al hospital en ambulancia aérea. En el lugar fue detenido un hombre de 31 años y en el lugar se recuperó un arma de fuego.
El residente de Valley Center, de 31 años, identificado como Kyle Del Gregory, fue arrestado y ingresado en el Centro de Detención de Vista. Gregory está detenido sin derecho a fianza y enfrentará múltiples cargos por delitos graves que incluyen intento de asesinato y agresión con arma mortal.
El Lunes 26 de Febrero de 2024, aproximadamente a las 11:30 p.m., la víctima del tiroteo, identificada como Jason Gillespie, sucumbió a sus heridas y fue declarada fallecida.
Los detectives de homicidios del Alguacil han actualizado los cargos contra Kyle Del Gregory para incluir 187(a) PC – Asesinato.
En esta etapa de la investigación aún se investigan los motivos y circunstancias del crimen.
La Oficina del Médico Forense determinó que Gillespie murió por heridas de bala. La forma de su muerte se consideró un homicidio.
