On March 7, 2024, at approximately 10:28 p.m., Sheriff's Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Vista Station, Traffic Division and Vista Fire Department personnel responded to a vehicle vs. bicycle collision on S. Melrose Drive at the intersection with Buena Vista Drive.
Based on the preliminary investigation, two motorists were involved in collision with a bicyclist at the intersection. The first motorist bumped into the bicyclist, remained at the scene, and cooperated with the investigation. A second motorist struck the bicyclist and fled the scene of the collision northbound on S. Melrose Drive. The second motorist was believed to have been driving a white crossover or SUV type vehicle. The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Sheriff's Department is seeking the public's assistance in locating the vehicle involved that fled the scene.
